Brakes are probably the most important safety component on your BMW.

Parts of a BMW Brake System include:

• BMW Brake Hydraulic System – produces the pressure to move the brake piston inside the caliper
• BMW Brake Caliper – holds the brake pads and piston while providing the structure of the mechanical brake system
• BMW Brake Pads – the replaceable pads that press against the rotors to stop your car
• BMW Brake Rotors – the replaceable metal disks the brake pads press against to stop your car
• BMW Brake Pad Sensor – the sensor that lets you know when your car needs new brake pads

BMW & Orr Autosport recommend servicing your brake system as follows:

• Hydraulic System – fluid change every two years (regardless of mileage)
• Brake Calipers – cleaned and examined for wear when pads or rotors are changed
• Brake pads – when brake pads wear down below specified thickness or brake sensor triggers (varies by vehicle model)
• Brake Rotors – when the rotors wears down below the specified thickness (varies by vehicle model)
• Brake Pad Sensor – must be replaced if dash-light goes on or is damaged
